An exciting opportunity to join MDPI, a pioneer in scholarly open access publishing in the role of HR Generalist.
We are looking for a pro-active and dynamic HR Generalist to join our team. The new role is a permanent and full-time position based in our Barcelona Office.
About the job:
The HR Generalist fulfills a crucial function within the HR department, encompassing diverse responsibilities such as recruitment, HR operational administration and compliance, training, and employee relations. Serving as a vital liaison between employees and management, they manage concerns, facilitate communication, and uphold company policies and legal regulations. Moreover, HR Generalist frequently contributes to strategic endeavors aimed at fostering organizational culture, enhancing employee engagement, and optimizing workplace efficiency.
Responsibilities:
Talent Management & Acquisition:
- Support during recruitment processes, collaborating with hiring managers, sourcing candidates, and participating in interviews.
- Responsible for the employees' life cycle from onboarding to offboarding, providing advice and support on all HR-related matters.
HR Operations & Compliance:
- Maintain a working knowledge of HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations, local labor law and company policies.
- Maintain accurate employee files and records.
- Monitor the time recording system to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Serve as a liaison with relevant public administrations and authorities.
Employee Relations & Engagement:
- Address employee concerns and conflicts, fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Act as a contact person for employees, providing support and guidance on HR-related inquiries.
- Conduct conversations, interviews, and follow-up meetings with employees to address issues and provide feedback.
- Implement initiatives to boost employee morale and engagement.
Learning & Development:
- Identify training needs, collaborate with the HR Manager Europe / North America and the Training Department, and evaluate their effectiveness to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
- Manage the performance review process.
- Participate in various HR projects and initiatives aimed at improving organizational effectiveness and employee engagement.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Process monthly payroll in collaboration with the external payroll provider and administer compensation-related tasks.
- Administer any relevant benefits programs, such as retirement plans and other applicable perks.

Assist employees with benefit inquiries, enrollment, and changes as applicable.
Requirements:
Education:
-Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Human Resources or a related field (e.g., HR management, law).
Experience:
-Over 3 years of progressive experience in an HR role, demonstrating expertise in diverse HR functions.
-Proficiency in payroll processing and administration, showcasing a strong understanding of financial aspects within HR operations.
Know-how/skills:
-Advanced knowledge of local labor laws and social security regulations, ensuring compliance in all HR activities.
-Familiarity with general HR policies and procedures, coupled with a proven ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
-Dynamic and reliable team player, exhibiting exceptional interpersonal skills and a proactive "hands-on mentality" approach to collaborative work.
-Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive HR matters.
-Strong organization and prioritization skills, enabling efficient management of multiple tasks and deadlines.
-Proficient in critical and analytical thinking, enabling strategic problem-solving and decision-making.
-Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and adapt to changing environments, showcasing a strong aptitude as a fast learner.
-Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish, both verbal and written, facilitating effective interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
-IT proficiency, including advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Familiarity with MS Visio, Forms, and OneNote is advantageous for streamlined workflows and data management.
-Demonstrated experience with HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) or HRMS (Human Resources Management Systems) platforms, showcasing the ability to navigate and utilize such systems effectively in HR operations.
-Willingness and eagerness to learn new apps and tools, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach to staying updated with emerging technologies and software solutions.
